Because I was not a Homesexual.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they shot the black men, and I did not speak out-
Because I’m not black and they didn’t shoot me.
Then they came for the women, limiting their health options, and their relative pay, and I did not speak out-
Because I’m not a woman, and hey I can afford the expensive healthcare.
Then they came for the environment, and I did not speak out –
Because I can afford a water filter and live in a city.
Then they came for the illegal immigrants, and I did not speak out –
Because I’m legal.
Then they came for the voting rights of poor people and non-white people, and I did not speak out –
Because I’m white and not poor.
Then they came for the homeless people and I did not speak out –
Because I have a home.
Then they came for me—
and there was no one left to speak for me.
